I was a presenter on ABC TV’s Play School from 1993 through to 2001, although the episodes I was on ran for a few years after that.
I loved doing Play School.
My very first programme was a special outside episode in Sydney’s Royal Botanical Gardens. It was with Monica Trapaga and John Hamblin. I couldn’t believe I was actually doing Play School, singing “The Ants Go Marching”, introducing story time and pretending to be a hungry dinosaur! It was one of the best days ever!
I wrote a lot of songs that still get sung on Play School and even now big people stop me and say, “You’re Colin! I used to watch you on Play School when I was a kid!” How nice to have so many friends! And how nice to learn so much as a presenter on one of Australia’s
longest running and best-loved TV programmes!
Here’s a wee snippet of a song I did a long time ago with my friend George, where we visited some other friends to help out with jobs. See? My guitar is never far away.
